Tokyo Ghoul

Set in modern-day Tokyo, the world is inhabited by Ghouls—creatures that look like humans but can only survive by eating human flesh. The story follows Ken Kaneki, a shy college student who barely survives an attack by a female ghoul named Rize. After an emergency organ transplant using her parts, Kaneki becomes a Half-Ghoul.

Caught between two worlds, Kaneki must navigate the secret society of ghouls (starting at the coffee shop Anteiku) while being hunted by the CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul). The series is less of a typical action manga and more of a tragedy, exploring how Kaneki loses his humanity to protect his loved ones, eventually leading into the sequel series, Tokyo Ghoul:re.
